Gift Giving is a Talent

Some people have been blessed with the talent & some people have not lol.  If you were skipped over when that talent was being handed out or if you just want to up level your gift-giving game, this post is for you.

First, I believe there are a few different types of gift givers…

Type A - The “I don’t have time, “I don’t know what you like or what you want” and “I just want you to have something you like” - These are our gift card, & cash gift givers.

Type B - The “I have to give something, ”I’m gonna run in this store real quick,” “I’m gonna send flowers, or some other delivery,” “I’m gonna grab what I think they’ll like or need but I’m not sure,” or the infamous “I’m gonna buy them what I like or I think they should have or I want them to have.”

Type C - And finally, the “I really want them to feel special & thought of and that some time, not just money was invested in this gift.” “I’m going to find out what they really want” or “I’m going to pay close attention to their style, favorite colors, where they shop & what they love so I get it right.”

As long as your heart is in it, it really doesn’t matter which type of gift giver you are.  However, what does matter regardless of what you give, budget etc., is presentation. And if you wanna bring your “A” game the next time you give a gift, then you’ll wanna start gravitating more towards being a Type C giver for the win!  It’s pretty simple folks. Let’s get into it!

Step 1 - Choose Your Budget & a Box

Tip #1 is to think of making a big impact with a small footprint.  For example, if you wanna spend a total of $50 dollars on a gift remember to include the packaging for your gift which is your presentation.  Now I’m not talking gift bag & paper since we’re talking about bringing our A game here. This means a box (square shallow boxes are my fav), crinkle paper, bow or another embellishment & card with a handwritten message included.  This shows you cared enough to take extra time to make this person feel special. There may only be 3 little items in your box, but you know they will love those 3 items & they will be beautifully presented.

Step 2 - Select a Theme & Color

Tip #2 is to choose things that go together.  For example, the first box shown here, the theme is a “pink pamper yourself” box for a very busy mompreneur & wife who hosted a Thanksgiving soiree in which she did all the cooking decorating etc. So, while I don’t know her that well, what superwoman wouldn’t really like a pamper kit with some beauty products, a candle to try for her next bath, a lil rose & a few sweet treats and a rubber duckie just for fun?! All in pink & white if I know she adores pink like I do.  The next box was also a turkey day hostess gift for someone I knew loved baking - all the items super cute & baking related that she can use. And the third, a Christmas gift for my girl who loves beauty & Sake...and pink of course! You get the idea.

Step 3 - Pack & Present Your Gift!

Tip #3....This is the tricky part.  When you choose your box, make sure that the things you choose to go in the box can lay flat in the box and are symmetrical.  Think Origami...you want things to fit yet have their own lil space or pocket without being overcrowded. Buy your card but do write something personal other than your signature...it’s a lost art people - writing that is. So, when you take the time to use a pen instead of your device to say something personal it gets noticed.

Follow these steps, apply these tips and you have up leveled your gifting game & I promise you’ll get the wow factor every time.  Happy gifting!
