All too often I get so busy creating content, being a boss and wifey to my husband that I look up & realize that I've missed out on much needed quality time with my girls. This time is so important for my self care because it uplifts, empowers & rejuvenates me to go back into the world to face all of the things so many of us carry on our shoulders & soldier through daily with a smile on our faces. So instead of finding somewhere to go and pay to hang out, I love to create a fun, cozy atmosphere with good food, libations & relaxing activities right here at home! We are so blessed here in lala land to have amazing weather almost all year round, that a "girls' backyard movie night" is always a good idea.
To create a comfy, better than at the movies experience, I first set out to DIY comfortable seating, then added comfy cushions, pillows & warm blankets and finally added some movie night musts to make it feel theatre authentic...I'm always doin the most I know! But that's how we get down at LifeStacyStyle!
First order of business, purchase or order your cushions & pillows. The size of your cushions will determine the dimensions of your seats. I found that bench cushions are best for these seats. Also, it's important that these be outdoor cushions & pillows with uv protected fabric - I found my cushions at biglots and my outdoor lumbar pillows are from wayfair. I always buy the best blankets at Homegoods.
If you have just a lil DIY in you, these movie seats are so simple & inexpensive to make. It literally took me one trip to home depot (I bought plywood - that they cut -, 1x2x30 wood trim, 6 inch bolts, door hinges & black spray paint), a drill, a coat of spray paint & 10-15 mins. per chair to make. If you wanna do the most, like me, you'll add bungees to secure the cushions to the seats. If DIY is not your thing, I suggest outdoor rugs with lots of pillows mixed with aidirondack chairs to give folks seating options. Order your movie screen kit from Carl's Place for the best movie screen material & quick-easy DIY set up by you or some unsuspecting handy male member of your family lol.
Pick your favorite Chic Flick, Rom Com to watch. Some of my favs are: Bad Moms, The Holiday, Crazy Stupid Love, Bridesmaids and Girls Trip.
Finally, add your movie fare and snack classics with a hot dog bar, popcorn, twizzlers, mike and ike and whatever other nostalgic movie snacks & bubbly drinks you enjoy...Izze is my bubbly drink of choice! And of course being the hostess with the mostess, I had to have a s'mores bar, some vintage movie reels for decor and let's not forget the girly touches of blush...well because there will always be blush over here lol!
